چکیده

The isotopically substituted nitrous oxide species 14N14NO, 15N14NO, 14N15NO and 15N15NO were investigated by ultra-violet (UV) absorption spectroscopy. High precision cross sections were obtained for the wavelength range 181 to 218 nm at temperatures of 233 and 283 K. These data are used to calculate photolytic isotopic fractionation constants as a function of wavelength. The fractionation constants were used in a three-dimensional chemical transport model in order to simulate the actual fractionation of N2O in the stratosphere, and the results were found to be in good agreement with field studies.

Determination of key metabolites during biodegradation of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine with Rhodococcus sp. strain DN22.

Rhodococcus sp. strain DN22 can convert hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) to nitrite, but information on degradation products or the fate of carbon is not known. The present study describes aerobic biodegradation of RDX (175 microM) when used as an N source for strain DN22. RDX was converted to nitrite (NO(2)(-)) (30%), nitrous oxide (N(2)O) (3.2%), ammonia (10%), and formaldehyde (...

Source of nitrous oxide emissions during the cow manure composting process as revealed by isotopomer analysis of and amoA abundance in betaproteobacterial ammonia-oxidizing bacteria.

A molecular analysis of betaproteobacterial ammonia oxidizers and a N(2)O isotopomer analysis were conducted to study the sources of N(2)O emissions during the cow manure composting process. Much NO(2)(-)-N and NO(3)(-)-N and the Nitrosomonas europaea-like amoA gene were detected at the surface, especially at the top of the composting pile, suggesting that these ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB)...

Laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy of 14N18O and its application to breath analysis.

Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy is an efficient tool for the detection of low nitric oxide (NO) concentrations down to the parts per trillion (ppt) range. The isotopic selectivity of this method provides a broad potential of applications. Whereas (14)N(16)O and (15)N(16)O have been described extensively this is not the case for the (14)N(18)O isotopologue. A (1+1) resonance enhanc...

Nitrate Uptake and Assimilation by Wheat Seedlings during Initial Exposure to Nitrate.

Nitrate uptake, reduction, and translocation were examined in intact, 14-day-old, nitrogen-depleted wheat (Triticum vulgare var. Knox) seedlings during a 9-hour exposure to 0.2 mm Ca (NO(3))(2). The nitrate uptake rate was low during the initial 3-hour period, increased during the 3- to 6-hour period, and then declined. By the 3rd hour, 14% of the absorbed nitrate had been reduced, and this inc...
